What is the Purpose of This Course? (Week 1)

I was excited to start the course this week. I have already previewed some of the books for the course and look forward to gaining a clearer version of my future business plans and aspirations. I have been thinking a lot about the potential I have to excel. As I use the resources around me, I know I can develop into so much more than what I currently am and can do so much more too.

As I listened to Elder Bednar's talk, I was reminded of how God and his leaders encourage us to be the very best we can be, and that there are no limits to what we can accomplish. The right tools and spiritual commitment can lead us to a fulfilling existence. I also appreciated how he differentiated between consecration and sacrifice. Sacrifice seems more of an afterthought, while consecration is dedicating something to a sacred purpose from the very beginning. I think as I come up with a future business plan or career path, I need to be willing to dedicate my efforts to God from the beginning.

Another theme that I noticed throughout the sources was emphasizing the importance of the network around you. You are only as strong as those you can glean from. I think that I often want to conquer challenges alone and neglect to consider how people around me would help my ventures go so much farther. I want to implement that into my thoughts and plans. I look forward to finding mentors and then encircling myself with those who have marketable plans and ambitious visions.

Lastly, a theme throughout was the ability to be fast on your feet. The future of a business rests on the assets, aspirations/values, and state of the market (Hoffman and Casnocha). You have to have access to important facts when you need them. You have to align with the values and trends of the day to stay relevant. I hope to deliver a product that is useful to others, but more than that, I hope to develop mastery in my field so people can come to me for help and knowledge.
